Power In Unity. Very early on, Hispanicize set the right tone for the 2016 conference. Inclusion, union, diversity were palpable throughout the week. The inclusive approach needs to be applauded especially in times when dangerous rhetoric and disgraceful comments about the Latino community are too many times left with no consequences for their authors. #PowerInUnity sends a positive, consensual message that will help held people accountable for their speeches and actions.
FIRST CLASS ACTIVISTS
Rosario Dawson was undoubtedly the headline of the 2016 edition of Hispanicize. It’s hard to pick one but just seeing the level of commitment and passion about this activist and talented actress, is extremely humbling. The proudly declared Bernie supporter spoke her mind unapologetically and this is amazing. Rosario Dawson is truly gift to the Latino community.
IMPRESSIVE POLITICAL ROASTER
2016 is an important year for Latinos. Maybe one of the most important of our lifetime. Political dialogues where on point and elevated the debate much higher than the traditional perceptions on how to best approach the gain of the Latino vote in 2016.
TOP LEVEL ENTREPRENEURS
#ElPerfectPitch sponsored by Wells Fargo was a great experience. As a non selected participant, I was curious to see what was in store. I have to admit that In Spirit crushed the competition on that one. It’s just the truth. Aside from the fact that ready-to-drink craft cocktails with cold-pressed juice is a brilliant idea, the execution of the pitch, the confidence and the vision from Lawrence Cisneros was really impressive. Huge congrats! In Spirit has a promising future 🙏
INDUSTRY’S BEST CONTENT CREATORS
The #TeclaAwards 2016 was probably the best time I had at Hispanicize. I connected with amazing individuals. Great times with Rich from Corriente Latina: Huge congrats my friend on an outstanding achievement. It was great meeting Smiley Miami and R-1 La Escencia 🇩🇴. The 2016 #TeclaAwards were definitely incredibly covered on the music department with Wisin, Alex Sensation and so on. ✨
Lizzie Velasquez‘s story is simply everything. Her narrative and powerful kindness brings up so many issues in our society, one being cyberbullying and bully mindset overall. Learning about her journey through self doubt and anxiety to world class motivational speaker was very emotional. All emotions were reunited on stage including humor especially when witnessing the authenticity of her interactions with her parents: Lizzie did not hesitate to call out her parents at multiple occasions for never teaching her the Spanish language. Hilarious!
OUR “COUPS DE COEUR”
What to say about one of the best success stories of Hispanicize. Ozzie Areu, President of Tyler Perry’s Studios, shared his unbelievable journey through the entertainment business form security agent to the top of a major movie empire. From being rejected from the police academy to becoming one of the most trusted men in Hollywood by Jennifer Aniston or Brad Pitt (excuse me…) Ozzie was incredibly humble attributing his success to integrity and honesty. A truly unforgettable moment.
We could not finish this recap without giving a HUGE shootout to Joanna Hausman. Best content creator of the year, incredibly talented, funny and down to earth, this woman is nothing short of amazing. Down to earth, accessible, and yes sooooooo funny, Joanna really stole our hearts at #hispz16
